English:

nityāṣōḍaśikārūpā śrīkaṇṭhārdhaśarīriṇī ॥ 85 ॥

Tamil:

நித்யக்லின்னா நிருபமா நிர்வாணஸுக²தா³யினீ ।
நித்யாஷோட³ஶிகாரூபா ஶ்ரீகண்டா²ர்த⁴ஶரீரிணீ ॥ 85 ॥

Meaning:

This verse reveals Śrī Lalitā as the perfect union of infinite compassion and infinite completeness.

It begins with a deeply comforting image. As Nityaklinnā, the Divine Mother’s heart is eternally overflowing with compassion. Her grace is not occasional or conditional—it is Her very nature.

The verse then declares Her absolute uniqueness. As Nirupamā, there is nothing with which She can truly be compared, for She alone is the source from which all beauty, goodness, wisdom, and existence arise.

Her compassion reaches its highest expression as Nirvāṇasukhadāyinī, where She grants not merely temporary happiness but the supreme bliss of liberation—the freedom from ignorance and the realization of one’s true nature.

The final two names unveil profound Śrīvidyā symbolism. As Nityāṣōḍaśikārūpā, She is the embodiment of complete spiritual fullness, represented by the sacred sixteen-fold perfection. As Śrīkaṇṭhārdhaśarīriṇī, She reveals that Consciousness and Divine Power, Śiva and Śakti, are not two separate realities but one indivisible Truth.

Together, these names portray the Divine Mother as infinite compassion, perfect completeness, and the eternal unity underlying all existence.

Meditation:

This verse gently invites us to contemplate the fullness of Divine Love.

Meditate upon Nityaklinnā and feel the Divine Mother’s heart overflowing with compassion toward every being. Her love is not diminished by our shortcomings nor increased by our achievements. Like the sun that shines equally upon all, Her grace flows continuously, waiting only for the heart to receive it.

Reflect upon Nirupamā and recognize that the Infinite cannot truly be compared with anything finite. Every beautiful experience in this world is but a faint reflection of the boundless beauty that is the Divine Mother. The Upaniṣads often point beyond comparison, reminding us that Brahman is “not this, not that” (neti neti), for no worldly measure can contain the Infinite.

Contemplate Nirvāṇasukhadāyinī and remember that liberation is not merely freedom after death but awakening here and now to our true nature. This beautifully echoes the spirit of the Bhagavad Gītā, where lasting peace arises not from possessing the world but from realizing the Self that is ever free.

Meditate upon Nityāṣōḍaśikārūpā as the embodiment of perfect fullness. In Śrīvidyā, the number sixteen symbolizes completeness—the full moon, the fullness of consciousness, and the perfection of Divine Energy. The Mother lacks nothing, and in Her presence the seeker’s sense of incompleteness gradually dissolves.

Finally, contemplate Śrīkaṇṭhārdhaśarīriṇī. Just as the Ardhanārīśvara form reveals that Śiva and Śakti are eternally one, this verse reminds us that the apparent divisions we perceive are only surface appearances. Consciousness and Power, wisdom and compassion, stillness and activity, transcendence and immanence—all find perfect harmony in the Divine Mother.

May this contemplation awaken the understanding that the completeness we seek has always rested in the One who dwells within us as our own innermost Self.
